Helping Young Minds thrive in the AI World
AI and Me is an engaging introductory weekend course, comprising of 10 sessions, that helps young minds get a grasp of the digital world around them. Through hands-on activities and real world examples, children discover how modern digital services work, how to stay safe and thoughtful on social media, and how to use AI tools creatively and responsibly. By the end of the program, each learner builds a simple AI-powered project that showcases their new skills and confidence.

Learning Objectives of the program

Build a strong foundation in how the digital world really works. Children will understand what happens behind the screens — from data sharing and online recommendations to how everyday apps are powered by algorithms.

Learn to use social media safely, responsibly, and confidently. Navigate social platforms with awareness — making smart choices about privacy, information, and online behavior in an increasingly connected world.

Develop practical skills to use AI wisely and creatively. Harness AI tools like ChatGPT for learning, creativity, and problem-solving — and to recognize when not to rely on them.

AI and Me program Curriculum

Week 1: Data is the New Currency - Children learn the actual cost of being on social media and how platforms make money through you.

Week 2: Choices Shape Content - Children learn about algorithms and evolution of content recommendations through a "mini-experiment".

Week 3: Different Kinds of Tech – Children will gain an understanding about popular online platforms and their goals by comparing them. They will discuss what kind of app each of them would like to build and why.

Week 4: AI as a Helpful Buddy - Children will learn how to use AI as a homework helper, to brainstorm ideas and all about "vibe tasking".

Week 5: Where AI Can Mislead - Children will understand how AI can go wrong, its limitations and myths through a ChatGPT Q & A session.

Week 6: Fakes & Deepfakes - Learners generate fakes using their published public info, and learn to discern genuine from fake.

Week 7: Privacy Basics - Children learn about digital footprint and how to safeguard their personal info online through a mock social media post game.

Week 8: How AI Learns - Learners understand how AI works and how to go from patterns to predictions by creating their own "Mini-AI".

Week 9: Key Lessons - Children discover the best practices to get the most from the AI world and build their own AI guidebook.

Rangarajan Vasudevan is an entrepreneur and educator who teaches at IIT Madras. With a B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Madras and a M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan, Ranga has over 18 years of experience building data-driven solutions. Having built 3 companies, he now focuses on advising startups with their AI and data strategy and helping learners of all ages use data & AI responsibly and creatively.
